HI! I have a 6 mo. old daughter. At birth she was diagnosed w/ a left side facial nerve/muscle paralysis. It seems to have pretty much disappeared but occationally her smile is asymmetrical. Right after birth, I noticed her lower jaw was slanted - so that the left side was higher than the right.
Her face looks like this :-|\ Normal looking like this :-|| We also noted that she has several birthmarks - a long one in the middle of her forehead, spotted ones on the top eyeslids of both eyes and a few on her nose. She also has a large dark one that has fuzzy hair on her lower back. We were told that they will fade. Only the lower back one concerns me - possible spina bifida occulta? We saw a cranio-facial team but they said because her ear is fine it will get better on it's own. At 2 mo. she was diagnosed with Left Torticollis and at 5 mo. was diagnosed with Plagiocephaly. Her cranial scanned showed moderate plagio - with her nose veering to the left, her right cheek, ear and forhead more pronounced or forward - everything on right forward. So that her head looks a little like a kidney bean - with the indent on the left. In recent pictures her face is looking more and more asymetrical. She will be getting a cranial remolding helmet next week. I was told by the craniofacial dr that only time will tell if her jaw will go back to normal. Is this right? They would not give me a "diagnosis". All my own research seems to point to a Hemifacial Microsomia. The difference being my dd's left ear is normal. It is concave behind it though - and not on the right side. Her infant hear tests came back normal but the left side took signifactly more time to pass - Rt. side was 1007 sweeps and Lt. side was 5725 sweeps. I don't know if that matters or not. Can someone have a Microsomia w/ out the ear being involved - or at least with the ear looking normal? The torticollis seems to be affecting her whole left side of her body too. Spinal mucles on left are tighter than right, hips twist to the left. The creases on her legs are asymmetrical - but her pediatrician says her hips are fine. We are hoping to get a referral to an orthopedist soon. Sorry this is so long, I wanted to give you a complete picture of my daughter. Thank you for any help or insight you can give. |
