Léah was in London a little while ago and whilst walking in Hyde Park she tripped and hit her head. It did not look very violent but after a short while she had a very strange looking bump on her fore head ("normal" bumps are wide and sort of round in shape, this one was pointy and looked like a screw or a plug of some sort).
We took her to hospital in London but they said it was probably nothing to worry about. It could be bone-growth from the healing or something like that they claimed. At home, we went to our doctor and he didn't want to give a verdict so he sent us to the specialist who had performed the operation. By the time we got the appointment with the surgeon, the bump was almost gone and he could not explain what it was. He did not agree with the theories put forth in London. Now I wonder if anyone of you have had similar experiences and if your doctors have been able to explain what it was. Does anyone know if kids who have had these types of operations are more fragile to "violence" to the head than other kids? I am constantly concerned about her falling or hitting her head agains tables etc.. Maybe I am worrying about nothing? Here's Léah almost on the anniversary of her operation (last month). Léah |

Léahs 2nd birthday is coming up tomorrow and she's doing very well. We went for a check-up this summer and the verdict was very reassuring. Here's Léah today, riding pony's in a parc next to the Eiffel-tower :

Your daughter looks beautiful! I was wondering if you could tell me after her surgery did her head look
mis shaped still? I ask because my son had this same surgery done about 18 days ago and his head has a couple of strange hard bumps and the doctors just keep telling me it is fine. But it worries me Please let me know. Thank you so much |

But it worries me Please let me know. Thank you so much Thank you. My daugher's head was absolutely normal immediately after the operation apart from the swelling of her face over the first few days. She did have a few small "minibumps" that felt as if there was a screw, bolt or something just inside her skin (i.e. not an oval shaped bump that you would get from hitting your head on anything). These disappeared over time. I imagine that all of these operations will have different outcomes but over time, they should all heal nicely. I hope your son's bumps are just temporary and I think you can safely trust what your doctors are saying. My experience is that everything they've told me, has turned out true (even though there were many occations I was sure they were just trying to sugercoat the whole thing). |

I've been using this thread to try and help out and answer questions to others, now I have a question of my own. My daughers surgeon said that kids with Léahs condition and her surgery would run the risk of being cross-eyed for a period of up to two years after her operation. It's now been a little more than a year and a half and she's still a little bit cross-eyed.
I actually don't see it on a day to day basis but when I look at photos etc. I suddenly see it and I almost get surprised every time! Anyways, did any of your kids (or does any of them) have this problem and did it go away after about two years or did they linger? Did you have to go see specialists to get it sorted out? Did it get sorted out at all? Would be nice to hear your stories! Léah and I wish you all a Merry X-mas and a very Happy 2007! All the best for the New Year! |

My little Léah will soon be 2 1/2 and we will (not) celebrate the 2 yr anniversary of her operation in May.
Léah's progressing very fast by the looks of it and have (touch wood), as far as I can tell, no side-effects from the surgery. On the countrary she's been rather early in starting walking, talking, developing sentences etc. Weight/Height wise she's far bigger than her friends of the same age (perhaps because her friends are mainly French and her father is a far too big "viking"). Léah says hi to you all and so do I - all the best : Léah : D-day plus 2 years Btw, Léah's getting a baby sister in July and we are praying that she will not have to go through the same ordeal as her big sister. |

Léah got her babysister and Emma - luckily - does not have any head related problems. Thank God for that. Here are the first pictures of them :

http://www.badanka.com/~jesper/op/P1010372.JPG It seems as this forum has totally fallen asleep so I gather this may be the last update you get regarding Léah. Hope that the tale of my princess have helped many of you. I will check in every now and then to see if there is any movement in this forum. |
